CAREER HISTORY:
2004 to present day
GRAYMATTER (MILTON KEYNES)
A large design consultancy with some major clients such as HSA Healthcare, Vauxhall Motors, Trafficmaster and NCP Car Parks to name but a few.
I work specifically on ideas-based design & advertising using markers and illustration to create the required image, along with the usual computer route.
2003 to 2004
FREELANCE
I moved from the West Midlands to Hertfordshire to buy a Post Office & General Stores with my wife. For a year I helped run the shop and work freelance for local agencies (one of which took me on full-time).
1999 to 2003
THE DESIGN CENTRE LTD. (WALSALL)
A small design consultancy of 7 people where I worked as Senior
Designer for the following clients: Merry Hill shopping centre,
Walsall TEC, Chemtek, DTZ & the Environment Agency.
My
job involved taking a brief (from client or Account handler),
designing
the work on Mac or with markers, artworking it or
coding it (if it was a website), art directing photography,
retouching and colour correcting the shots, planning it
up for print, checking
the film and Matchprint from the repro house and finally
overseeing the printed job at the printers if needs be.
1998 to 1999
REEVES GREEN PARTNERS LTD (LICHFIELD)
I was taken on as Senior Art Director in the Creative Department
working on: ‘
through-the-line’ work for British Standards Institution
(BSI), Marston's Brewery, Maygay Games and Symphony Hall.
I also worked on websites for BSI, Norgren & Reeves
Green utilising both Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver.
1995 to 1998
THE DESIGN CENTRE LIMITED (WALSALL)
My job was pretty much the same as it was above at the Design
Centre, but with less internet work and the following clients:
Vax vacuum
cleaners, Lunn Poly and MTM among others.
1993 to 1995
RHODES ADVERTISING LIMITED (WALSALL)
I was employed as a Senior Designer in a team of 11 Mac Artists
and Designers. My duties included: concepts, design & artwork for advertising and print.
The client list included: Westbury Homes, Tristar Car Group
and
West Midlands
Police.
1992 to 1993
HOWLE CHAPMAN RAYMER (BIRMINGHAM)
A design company based in Birmingham City Centre.
I was one of 4 designers working on mostly below-the-line
work for national commercial developers such as: Grimleys
and Bulleys.
1991 to 1992
PARTRIDGE McLOUGHLIN (WOLVERHAMPTON)
A small, successful design agency in Wolverhampton which
specialised in Goodyear Tyres' below-the-line work as well
as local large and
small businesses. I was employed as a designer along with
3 others, and was responsible for generating anything from
press
ads to promotional material
for Goodyear and local firms.
1989 to 1991
JOHN MORTON STUDIOS (WOLVERHAMPTON)
I worked with 3 designers on clients such as: Wolverhampton & Dudley
Breweries, Wolverhampton Council and Wolverhampton Polytechnic.
This was also my first experience of using an Apple Macintosh
computer.
1987 to 1989
ANDREW'S HEAT FOR HIRE (WOLVERHAMPTON)
One of the UK's leading heating specialists. I worked in
the in-house studio as a designer and put together all
of their
80 outlets'
design and artwork. From small Yellow Pages adverts,
to full colour brochures, to large scale posters and POS.
1984 to 1987
RHODES ADVERTISING (WALSALL)
My first job after leaving college and my first taste of how
different real design is from a college course (everything
had to be done
so quickly!)
I gained valuable experience here working in both traditional
'paste-up' and slick magic marker visuals for a client list
which included:
McAlpine Homes, CO-OP Superstore and Fairclough Homes etc.
INTERESTS
I play bass guitar. I love music, film, art, architecture
and design. I collect American comics and typefaces.
